Rest
Mathew 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
There is never more a needed promise from our Lord and Savior than the promise of Rest. The world today is constant chaos & turmoil. Our lives even seem to get out of control sometimes. We constantly fight battles in our mind of anxiety, doubts, & fears. The spiritual wickedness of this world is set up in such a way that it amplifies the battles in our mind. Sometimes it gets so bad that even a good night sleep will escape us. This effects believers & nonbelievers alike. It is really a plague on humanity. The busier we stay in our lives and the less our minds are at rest the easier it is for us to slip away from God and even ignore Him all together.
God Himself gave us an example in the creation story. God created the world in six days and on the seventh day He rested. He then instructed the children of Israel to rest on the seventh day of the week. It wasn't so much for the bodily rest, which was beneficial. The rest was more for spiritual wellbeing of individuals. When our contact with God lessens, our minds will succumb to all kinds of temptations and attacks. When we lose our sanity, our lives become full of stress, then everything else starts to fall apart. We have to find rest for our hearts, soul, & minds.
Jesus gives us an invitation to find rest with Him. When we yoke ourselves to Him we are allowing Him to help us carry those burdens. When we fill our minds of knowledge of Him we are replacing the stress with the living hope of Christ. It is absolutely necessary we stay in constant connection with our Savior. The Bible tells us to pray continuously and to be diligent in studying God's word. The Word also encourages us not to forsake gathering together and worshipping God. The more we live into this discipline we will benefit from the rest we find. I want to encourage you to lean on Jesus and find rest unto your souls.
Pray with me. Lord Jesus, I come to you seeking rest from life's troubles & trials. Lord please clear my mind and remove the stress from my life. Thank you, Lord, for allowing me to lean on you and depend on you. My life makes sense when I walk hand in hand with You. Please Lord, hear my prayer. In Jesus name I pray, Amen!
